X.5800. HEADLAMP AND FITTINGS TO LOP D.51920.
SUPPORT TUBE D.51976. 1.375 dia.
LUCAS LAMPS CHROMIUM PLATED.

The headlamp support tubes have remained firm and are rigid. The headlamps have been satisfactory for night riding. The chromium plating is still in good condition. There is a very bad feature in the wiring up of the headlamps which will cause trouble if not altered. The wire is lead from the conduit through the frame into the bottom recess of the wing stay and then up and into the support tube of the lamp. We found when the wing stay was removed that this recess was absolutely full of grit, which gets in through a drain hole in the wing stay. This grit will chafe the insulation away and cause a short circuit. It would be quite easy to take the wire straight up the tube by drilling a hole in the top side of the frame.
