W/P. To VA. from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/PJH. c. Hd.{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/PJH.4/WH.26.10.37. Re Chassis 3.AZ.140. Thank you for your VA.2/GM.21.10.37. Your description of the front suspension after changing the springs, as being a little more rigid with less up and down movement, exactly corresponds with our experience of an increase in the amount of front damping. The higher poundage springs should not in themselves cause any noticeable difference to the feel of the suspension. We, therefore, think it is quite certain that the dampers were not working correctly before you dismantled them. In view of the above we suggest that, should you receive a similar complaint on another chassis, you should withdraw and clean thoroughly the damper units and change the oil in the spring housings. We would like to mention that after front dampers have been emptied of oil as much as 50 miles running may be necessary completely to refill them. If attending to the dampers does not cure the complaint and the car is low at the front, then you could try fitting the higher poundage springs. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/PJH. | ||
