YOUR REF

3rd February, 1938.

Messrs. Rolls Royce Ltd.,
Derby.

Dear Sirs,
Attention of Mr. Matthews.

You will no doubt be interested to learn that the writer called on the E.R.A. last week in connection with the new R.R. A.C. 6. bearing.

We were shown con-rods, the big end bearings of which were in this material, which had just left the test bed, having passed through a test, according to information given which would have totally destroyed the white metal bearing. The amount of contact on the bearing inspected was so light that it was difficult to realise that the bearing in question had run for any length of time, at any considerable load - that is further proof of the remarkable qualities of the bearing.

The writer brought away from E.R.A. six blue prints of the bearing which they require for the new car which they are building and of course we are most anxious to get down to production on this job. We look forward, therefore, to hearing from your people in due course, regarding the details as discussed between your goodselves and Mr. Howlett.

We have, incidentally, received a letter from Mr. Wilson, enclosing a copy of a report regarding material from Mr. Hall, but any further details or points in connection with this bearing, that is regarding running clearances and all other factors, to enable us to commence production of this job, will be greatly appreciated.

Yours faithfully,
F.{Mr Friese} Blackith
Technical Manager.
KFM..
