BY4-P22.1.23.

40/50 CHASSIS. PLUGS.

I wish to confirm my previous instruction to the effect that we are not using C.56 Lodge plugs on the 40/50 chassis at present. We are having to use C.9's and Z.22's, as these represent the only plugs that we have standardization sheets for at the moment.

The fault with the C.56 appears to have been a manufacturing trouble, which Z.22 was equally liable to. We think that Messrs. Lodge will be able, from the half dozen plugs we have returned to them, to diagnose the trouble, which is apparently a manufacturing one, and overcome it, but in any case we wish to confirm our instruction to Messrs. Lodge from this department, that our order for 1000 plugs is to be delivered as 500, C.9. and 500, Z.22.

In the meantime we have instructed the O.O. to hand over 100, C.56 plugs to the Test Dept for further running, in order to investigate whether the batch we have in the Stores at the moment shew the same faults as existed in the first 48, by which the insulation came loose.

BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer}
