X.4383 - DYNAMO No.318 RETURNED AS FAULTY.
This machine was found to have the negative brush holder displaced so as to be at a "trailing" angle, and causing the main brush spacing to be about 7 1/4 commutator segments, instead of 7 1/2. This holder was also not quite axially in line and the control brush holder was slightly out of line, causing the brush to be a little tight.
One nut on the control brush holder, and both on the negative holder, were found not very tight.
The brush spring pressures were, positive .4 lb.. negative .4 lb.. control .5 lb.
Incidentally the lock washer on the driving sprocket was found broken. In running, the machine showed no serious defects, there being some sparking at the control brush, but very little at the main brushes.
The commutator was in fairly good condition and the output on the production test was 11.4 amps.
