X. 8260 DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EVL/M30.9.24. To HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ) BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} ) FROM DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} c. to LHS.{Lord Herbert Scott} S E C R E T. E.A.C.11. RE. BONNETS. X. 8260. We understand that in future it is to be arranged that all bonnets shall either be fitted with shutters or louvres, this being in view of the cooling problem. We also understand that in the past we have not been able to make a shuttered bonnet suitable for polishing, and that polished bonnets have had no ventilation at all. We therefore would like to know exactly what is the difficulty with a polished bonnet with louvres, so that if possible we might overcome it by some method of design.
