X1140 S/M (2) c. to Sr. S/W. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Ox/4/SS.{S. Smith}27.7.33. re: 40/50 HP. Bonnet Panel Stops. Replying to EB/HP.20.7.33. - We received your working model of the proposed new device which we like and approve and are returning it to you separately, in due course. We suggest the bolt heads should be prepared for painting as they do not need to be conspicuous on the top of the bonnet. We should be glad to know the cost of introducing this improvement but gather it will not be very expensive. Would you please tell us what is intended to be the function of the small pins with springs, steel washers and split pins, having a movement range of about one inch. Is it intended that there should be sufficient friction between the faces held together by these springs to stop the bonnet from going down heavily when thrown open? When do you expect to be able to introduce this as standard on all bonnets? We are presuming that a similar type will be provided for use on the 20/25 HP. as well as the 40/50 HP. If in that case they could all be made the same size, it may be less costly than having them made in two different sizes. Gr.{George Ratcliffe} LID{A. J.
