Referring to your report EH2/LG11819, we have looked into the question of this fractured rocking lever and we are now informed by the works that this rocking lever on the steering column in question was one of the pre-war stock. We would like to point out that every one of these parts is ^now^ brinnelled during the course of manufacture, and we do not consider that your suggestion to put a brinell mark upon a finished part would be of any value, as we must get the right brinell before the parts are passed into the works for machining. It is also quite impossible on some of these parts to take the original brinell in such a place that it will not be machined off. BY/Btn. | ||
