RE PHANTOM III CHASSIS
3-AZ-90.

The springs taken from this car have now been examined in the Laboratory and found to be satisfactory in all respects, material and heat treatment.

It is suggested in BY/NS.{Norman Scott}3/G.5.1.38 that the cause of failure is over stressing by high revving in low gears.

We have looked into the question of manufacture and heat treatment and find that both are satisfactorily carried out. The wire is examined by the laboratory, and if conforming to specification it is passed for coiling. Springs are then inspected individually for dimensions and flaws.

They are then heat treated and batch tested, and all tested for poundage, squareness and length.

In view of the foregoing the Works cannot take any further action.
