Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 1204. 28 JUN 1940 To all Foremen. Re. Discharges. For some time now it has been the practise in certain instances, to show the reason for leaving as "Services no longer required." Since this causes considerable delay when Employment Exchange enquiries are sent through, it has now been decided that the correct reason should be given. We quote below an extract from a memo received from Mr. Wilson. "In future I must ask for a clear statement as to whether the man was discharged and if so, for what reason, and Foremen must understand that if they discharge a man they must be prepared to put a proper discharge through stating explicitly why the man was discharged."
