Notes of Meeting.

SpectreCodename for Phantom III II, which, as will be seen from my report, is very poor although SpectreCodename for Phantom III I is very good.

Re Noisy Back Axles, for the reasons known and discussed it was agreed that immediate action should be taken to use the J.III type axle with hypoid gears.

This will save time as compared with trying to use Wraith axle as not only does the axle exist but it has been run a considerable mileage; the correct hypoid gear ratios are known and can be produced and every effort should be made to get one ready for 21-U-IV even if the car has to go away without it and the axle follow.

Another trouble some feature on 20/25's is the change speed lever rattle. The remedy applied to the Bentley can also be applied to the 20/25. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} will scheme this.

It is important that it should be pushed on with urgently because at present we have complaints that we cannot cure.

A suggestion was made that to improve the performance of the 20/25 we should adopt the same scheme as suggested for the Bentley, i.e. increased bore and put the engine in a J.III frame with Wraith gearbox so as to get second speed synchromesh.

It was obvious, however, that this could only be done at the expense of Wraith; it would entail two changes in our models instead of one. It was, therefore, decided not to do anything in this direction.

Cx.{Major Len W. Cox - Advertising Manager} referred to a very unpleasant exhaust period at 30 m.p.h. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} said that this ceases after about 500 miles but that in any case JLE{J. Lee Evans - Chassis Test Manager} had been given a fish-tail to try some three months ago but they had never heard anything more about it.

Cx.{Major Len W. Cox - Advertising Manager} will have this fitted to the car to which he was referring and report results.

Easier Change Gearbox. This was referred to and the question of operating the synchromesh box by relay for SpectreCodename for Phantom III is having the consideration of the Design Dept.
