Contd. -4- EPC4/T7.5.25. Although it is difficult to get definite evidence on a point of this nature, we have a certain amount of experimental evidence that the operation of points has been definitely improved by improving certain connections, and recently we have reiterated the instructions that the utmost care should be taken in the cleanliness of all these connections. In the past there has possibly been a not unreasonable tendency to view these demands as too exacting, but recent experimental evidence has led us to doubt whether this is the case. In fact we would say again that in our opinion a design avoiding some of these connections would be superior as eliminating some possibilities of imperfections in manufacture, or those resulting from replacements. We say that (1) The I branch requires connections which are rather better than ordinarily good lighting connections, but that (2) The P & C branches require connections which are definitely but as metallically perfect as possible. The earthing connection on the old 40/50 ignition system was a simultaneous improvement, mainly in the IC circuit, but partly also in the FC circuit. The new earthing connection on the 20 HP. ignition is not as good | ||
