Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd.,
Experimental Department,
Derby.

Dear Sirs,

We thank you for your letter of the 15th instant and shall be glad to receive the samples which you are sending. We will also prepare and run the samples of RU and RL, together with the BZ material, in the manner you suggest in order to ascertain the slopes of the respective curves.

With regard to the fifth paragraph of your letter, we may find it necessary to use different cast iron plates for different linings in order to avoid the complication of contaminating the plate with product of wear. So far the new plate is behaving admirably.

Our reference to a convex curve was intended to convey the type of record which we hope to achieve whereas most of the curves we are obtaining are concave, the latter showing a falling µ with rising speed and vice versa.

We will certainly give you a call as soon as the Thermoid samples have been received and prepared for test.

Yours faithfully,
FERODO LIMITED.

W.E. Shilton
Technical Department.
