To Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} 200B also 624 Am/Std.8/JH.18.2.38. WRAITH AND BENTLEY III FAN. 424 As discussed today with Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} we would like you to produce a design for a modified fan mounting for both Wraith and Bentley III, the parts used to be as far as possible common to both. The features which we wish to obtain by this new design are (1) saving in service costs due to the fan being easily removeable for decarbonisation of engine. (2) reduced manufacturing costs. We have explained to Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} the way we think these features can be obtained and the various ideas which might be incorporated. When completed we shall make & test the Wraith design as quickly as possible in order to bring it on production after the first 18 chassis if this proves feasible. We shall also test in a Bentley III, in order to standardise it from the commencement of making Bentley III chassis. We will give you a figure for the correct distance from fan centre to c/shaft pulley centre with the Ferodo belt for which moulds are made, also how much variation in position can be tolerated without upsetting belt tension.
