W/S. PN.{Mr Northey} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} SECRET. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}7/LG12.5.24. 49940 4-WHEEL BRAKES. We have now running, what we call, an adopted scheme for the operation of the four-wheel brakes. Briefly, this is servo operation forwards and backwards. The braking will be equally effective in either direction. The direct braking will be to the rear wheels only and will have the same identical leverages as at present. This means, that if the servo for any reason is not in operation, the braking should be identical to that on the present std. car. The proportion of braking front and rear is not definitely decided, but R.{Sir Henry Royce} has practically agreed that it should be approximately equal. I propose bringing a car fitted with this scheme to London at the end of this week. It will not be the final arrangement but it should give similar results. We wish to try it in London to see that it is free from the faults of the other schemes when driving in traffic. I should like to know whether you will be available on either Thursday or Friday as I should very much like you to try the car. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
