Client-requested modifications for a car's bonnet, steering column, wheel, and instruments.

Technically we agreed that there was no objection to these features provided that in (2) the amount the bonnet was extended over the dash was kept down to the minimum.
However, we emphasised that the question of the appearance of an R.R. car was a delicate matter and that it was for the administration to say how far they were prepared to go to meet his requirements.

(2) Lower Steering Column & Special Wheel.

Something lower than the present standard E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} was requested. However, no detail drawing of the seating position was available to shew us exactly what was wanted.
We told Com. Kidson that it might be possible to increase the rake of the column slightly and we would say what could be done after seeing the drawings. Actually, the column on 26-EX, the Continental Propaganda car, appears to be what is required.

With regard to the steering wheel, Messrs. Thrupp & Maberly should provide this. It is a Bluemel Spring spoke, a type that we have run on 10-EX.

We stressed the fact that with the body design he had got, his field of vision with the raked column and raised radiator would be very poor indeed. He does not mind this however, and emphasised the fact by taking us out on his big 'Bentley', which certainly suffers from the trouble in a most acute form.
