Re Autopulse

Dear Hives:

Re yours of September 13th. I have used a single Autopulse on a 40/50 for a year and found none of the effects reported except a slight and scarcely objectionable ticking. If it is mounted on the dash the noise is objectionable however.

The makers recommend using a double Autopulse on a car of our size and mounting it on the side of the frame away from the dash.

We have now used a double instrument on dynamometer for four months and find it the most reliable method of feeding that we know.

We find however that whether with Autopulse or gravity feed, the action of the float mechanism on most Phantom type carburetters is very erratic, and we are working hard to try to cure it.

Your description of intermittent working of the device (i.e."galloping") makes me sure that you have what we found great difficulty in curing, namely air-leaks at the taper "Briggs" thread of the intake union.

Once this is got really air tight, (which took me not less than five attempts) the device seems to me to work wonderfully, and we were seriously considering installing double ones on old cars where the owner asks for a "vacuum feed" and we have no room to fit the present tank.

Yours very truly,

Maurice Olley
