X.3802 To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to CJ. RG.{Mr Rowledge} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} El/M1.10.25. EAGLE XVI. PISTON. Regarding the pistons for Eagle XVI., we sent you some time ago a transverse section through the piston on drawing LeC.2078., but the scheme for the piston pin was not shewn. We now send you drawing LeC.2144., giving you complete particulars of the piston and pin. You will notice the latter is of the Phantom type, with alum. plugs in each end, having heads which will allow you to drive out the pin with a tubular drift. This piston is arranged for 6 to 1 compression ratio which is in accordance with the volume you have found for the head by means of the wooden model. We shall in due course send you a piston for a lower compression ratio, say about 5 1/4 to 1., but at the moment we should be glad if you would issue the instructions for LeC.2144.
