NEW PHANTOMCodename for PHANTOM I. LIGHTER FRONT AXLE TO REDUCE TENDENCY TO H.S. WOBBLES.
------------------------------

With reference to BJ3/DN.25.11.25. I do not understand how you arrive at the proposal that we can wait until the middle of January before ordering any material, and to clear this issue I submit the following facts:-

a/- To manufacture parts, Works demand 13 weeks.

b/- Inspection Department require 4 weeks to cover inspection and replacements.

c/- Order Office have 9 weeks in which to order and have material delivered at the Works.

d/- Total 13 plus 4 plus 9, = 26 weeks.

e/- Time available for above from November 21st last, - 21 weeks. Time now available 20 weeks.

I am aware that Works are down on production, but wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} almost invariably manages to pull up any production he is down on in the course of a month or two, as generally it is only a few sections which are behind. In this case it may be more difficult, as the New PhantomCodename for PHANTOM I has called for special care not to get too far ahead on certain sections, and in steering has demanded the production of a new steering in parallel with the standard type, in order to be ready to improve what is admittedly a point of performance open to criticism.

In view of the foregoing, it seems to me beyond question we must either order material and jigs and tools for the new axle at once, or abandon the idea of getting same on "AA{D. Abbot-Anderson}" Series, at least for the first hundred.

Up to the moment of writing I have not been able to get hold of designs promised for Wednesday last, and therefore no work can be put in hand on the new design, at the works.
