- 2 - I have of course written and wired for information as to why no design drawings have materialised, but at the same time designs cannot be produced like making a new piece or even detailing same, as the longer one considers a new idea, the clearer it becomes, and new factors have to be recognised, (as knowledge increases), evaluated, and designs brought into line. The first few chassis of early half of "AA{D. Abbot-Anderson}" Series, i.e. "AA{D. Abbot-Anderson}", must go on test by April 17th. The first few chassis of second half of same Series, "AB", must go on test by May 29th. I therefore suggest in order to keep up continuity, assuming Works will overhaul their deficit, we must order the first half of "AA{D. Abbot-Anderson}" Series as standard, attempt to get new design for second half, and if this is doubtful at end of first week in January, we must order the second half to present standard. The new axle cannot be produced in less than two months from date I receive the design drawings, and then a week is required to run same about and see no obvious faults are likely to crop up, and then a further month for 10,000 miles testing. This means there will be at least 13 weeks before we can know if the new axle is right or not, and unless we cover ourselves by ordering the present standard, we shall of necessity have to form a break in deliveries. We can reconsider the position on January 1st and see if:- a/- Works are overhauling deficit. b/- New designs ahead or behind program. c/- Decide to order one type or the other, definitely, for the second half of "AA{D. Abbot-Anderson}", i.e. - "AB". BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Ry | ||
