SPECTRECodename for Phantom III. Clutch Shaft with Castellations
in place of serrations.

N.Sch.4507 herewith shows the above.

The outside dia. of the castellations is 12% greater than of the present serrations. To attain this increase without alteration to the release thrust bearing we have deleted the oil retaining lip in the extension piece which bolts to the flywheel cover. To compensate for the loss of the lip we provide extra holes in the extension piece, and a throwing lip on the clutch plate sleeve.

An increase of the bore of the special bearing at the rear of the clutch (N.Sch.4491) is necessary. 40m/m is the nearest standard size so the bearing is made 40m/m x 2+" x/2".

The splines resemble S.A.E.standard splines but have not the semi-circular root on the shaft, as we think this may weaken the shaft too much.

Both internal and external splines are to be hardened and the external are also to be ground.

Would you kindly note that this shaft is required for the next 8 SpectreCodename for Phantom III chassis and is therefore urgent.

HDY.{William Hardy}

Att: N.Sch.4507.
