re P.II Cars and Air Silencers.

I attach copy of note from Cx.{Major Len W. Cox - Advertising Manager} and, if the information given therein is correct, I cannot understand what has happened about these air silencers.

We were shown 19-EX last November with certain improvements, one very important one being the new type carburetter with the new air silencer, and as the result of our tests I agreed in Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}14/E16.11.32 to certain parts, including new type carburetter previously confined to Continental chassis, being included on the whole of the last 100 of "O" Series.

If you will refer to the memo. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}6/MJ23.11.32, from which Cx.{Major Len W. Cox - Advertising Manager} quotes, you will see that Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} is writing to R.{Sir Henry Royce} in that memo., confirming what I say above, i.e. that as the result of the tests which have been carried out on my car and 19-EX it had been agreed that a further series of 100 P.II's shall be made with the latest parts including the new carburetter with the resonance type of air silencer, and he goes on to confirm that the effect of the air silencer on the carburetter is an outstanding feature from the point of view of reduction of noise.

We have all been under the impression that these air silencers were coming along as standard on the 51st chassis in O.2. series, i.e. the first of the last 100, and after an interval of three to four months it is a very unpleasant surprise to find that we are to be without this important improvement.

As a matter of fact I only agreed to the new type carburetter being fitted to the non-Continental chassis because of the improvement effected on the silence by the fitting of the air silencer.

When we were talking about these air silencers at Derby last week, it was explained why these were not on the first 50 of "O", which was quite all right, but I certainly gathered the impression from those present that they were coming along from the 51st.

I should be glad to hear from you as soon as you have had an opportunity of investigating what has happened in regard to this matter.
