COPY. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} re - Air Silencer as on your Car. Cx{Major Len W. Cox - Advertising Manager}4/KW15.3.33 I have ascertained from BY on the telephone this morning that he made a mistake yesterday in telling me that it was proposed to introduce these air silencers on the 51st chassis in O2 series. He now tells me that it is intended, according to present programme, to introduce it after O2 series, i.e. in P2 series which is 100 chassis later, there being only 150 chassis in O2 series. This of course is very disappointing, and is rather difficult to understand in view of the note you found in the file yesterday from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} in which it was stated that it was intended to introduce this silencer at the 51st chassis in O2. I have also turned up a note from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} (Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}6/WJ. 23.11.32) in which he says - " As result of tests which have been carried out on Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}'s car and 19-EX it has now been agreed that a further series of Phantom II, 100 in number, shall all be made with the latest parts including the new carburetter (these 100 chassis are the last 100 in O2 series.) He further goes on to say in the same memo - "The effect of the air silencers on the carburetter is an outstanding feature. We get rid of a tremendous amount of noise and can do it without any loss of power. The point one has to get used to is that it is necessary to have a big capacity in the air silencer. "From the above it will be seen that we have in hand for immediate production a definitely improved Phantom II." In view of what BY said I have now asked him to let me know what would be the cost involved, to help us to decide whether it is worth our while to modify the last 100 chassis in O2 series in order to introduce this air silencer, and he has promised to consult Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} immediately on the matter. I understand it is a question of tools. Cx.{Major Len W. Cox - Advertising Manager} | ||
