13th December,
1938.

Dear Sirs,

The writer has recently been discussing with Mr.Grylls the possibility of a simplified valve arrangement for wheel covering discs, and bound up with this question was the idea of a rubber attachment on the periphery of the disc so that it would be insulated from the wheel rim.

A sample has already been submitted to Mr.Grylls, and as it is understood that you would carry out the attachment of the rubber yourselves, it is felt that you would wish to have our quotation for the necessary material, which is as follows :-

(a) Rubber strip 2/6d per dozen rolls each 5 yards long.
(b) Solution 1/-d per lb.

One wheel requires approximately 4 feet of strip, and 1 lb of solution would be sufficient for 40 wheels. It will therefore be seen that the material cost per car is in the neighbourhood of 5d.

Should you decide to proceed on these lines we should be very pleased either to send a Representative to Derby to give you a demonstration of the best procedure for attaching the rubber, or alternatively to receive your Representative at Fort Dunlop.

Yours faithfully,
For DUNLOP RUBBER CO.,LTD.
