19 EX.

We have to-day fitted the diffuser and the low speed jet to the carburetter of 19 EX. at the same time plugging up the feel hole that was drilled for the low speed jet. Previous to doing this we took the spring from underneath the air valve and the luffing up was very bad. With the above fitted we have been unable to obtain any sign of the luffing up trouble. It would seem therefore that this complaint has been rectified.

The brakes on this car are still not up to standard. We have had the servo down and found that oil had got on to the outer fabric. This was cleaned off and the servo re-erected. Afterwards giving the servo some work to do with the rear wheel jacked up, the servo was still not as efficient as it should be, so we have dismantled it. The bedding of the fabric was found to be on the inner surface only; this has been rectified.

RE. the Hydraulic Dampers.

On the rough roads round Chateauroux(French test region), we find that we require the full poundage of the hydraulic dampers combined with the Hartford. The pressure gauge of the oil pump reading 19 at 60, and 24 at 70. on one of the rough roads travelling at 50 m.p.h. the radiator movement was very bad as also were bonnet knocks. We shall, when the brakes are right, start serious work with the dampers.

[Handwritten]
The large dia engine fabric coupling is in a 100% condition and I am told the Engine has had very severe work to do.
