X.3903. REPORT ON AMERICAN CHASSIS PARTS. X.3565.

Foxboro' Thermometer: This Thermometer very closely resembles the Cambridge Thermometer we are at present fitting to our cars, except that the scale is in fahrenheit instead of centigrade.

We believe the fahrenheit to be the one most generally used and understood in America. The mechanism is quite good; the arrangement of it is better than the Cambridge Thermometer which we are using. The point we do not like about this instrument is the method of fixing it into the water system. We used a similar system at first and it gave trouble because we found that when the instrument was disconnected by outside mechanics, they invariably turned the large nut which twisted the capillary tube and broke it.

We recommend that the Foxboro Thermometer could be used on the American chassis as long as the fixing of the capillary tube into the water system is modified so as to be similar to what we are using (see drawing E.18062) and the length of capillary tube is made suitable.

X.3563. We wish to make it clear that as soon as we have perfected the Thermostat Control for the water system, Mr. Royce wishes to abandon fitting a Thermometer. We anticipate that all chassis built in America
