X.3741 - RE COMPARISON OF PERFECTION AND EXIDE HYDROMETERS.

Herewith please receive copy of my assistant's report on the comparison of the two hydrometers recently submitted to us for test.

You will judge from the remarks therein contained thatthe 'Perfection' hydrometer is generally the more suitable of the two, its principal failing being the poor legibility of the readings.

It has, however, many other advantages which outweigh this, particularly its more robust construction.

Comparing these glass hydrometers with the celluloid, the glass has of course the disadvantage that the float has to be removed whenever the hydrometer is out of use, whereas in the celluloid case it has not. On the other hand, there is a good deal greater accuracy and ease of reading with glass hydrometers, and we consider that on the whole the Perfection instrument is the most suitable we have had for putting in the hands of customers.

At Mr. Clough's request, we return the Perfection hydrometer herewith, keeping the Exide for our own use, but when you have finished with the sample Perfection hydrometer we should like to have this, if possible, for use in our laboratory.

EFC.
