RLK/NK. 2nd September 1936 Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd. D E R B Y. Dear Sirs, For the attention of Mr. Dixon. We are in receipt of yours of the 1st inst, and also of the two pots you have returned. We are now waiting delivery of the further coils which were promised for the first of this month. It is possible that they will come in by parcel post this morning. We have received the cushion springs and tested them with the 50 thou. projection; they definitely hold the pump up. Running dry on half voltage the armature will move forward until it comes into contact with the spring and then stop, the points remaining in contact. On the full voltage the pump continues running but is not particularly quiet. We are experimenting further with a smaller projection, but it does not appear that this is very promising, as in any case the spring is not doing what is intended in the way of silencing the pump. We have not yet received the impact washers from Messrs. Cooper's Mechanical Joints. They were informed at the time when we ordered them that they were urgent, but our recent experience has been that this firm is very slow. I am informed that one cannot tie these people down to limits closer than 10 thou. and it rather looks as if we shall have to have a variety of brass pattern washers to make the best of the job. I believe also you have had some -1- | ||
