S. H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} Grylls Esq.,
Messrs. Rolls-Royce Limited,
DERBY.

Dear Mr. Grylls,

With reference to the question of 6.50/17 tyres for the Bentley, we have been delayed in writing to you on account of the fact that we have been investigating the patent position in connection with a proposed design which we wish to make. We now find that it is doubtful whether we can make this design in the form which we have proposed without infringement.

Mr. Young has shown me the figures which you so kindly sent him on the cornering powers on the various types of tyres which you have tested.

The second type India silent tread seems to be reasonably satisfactory and you have already stated that you are satisfied from the standpoint of silence. I would recommend therefore that you consider the adoption of the 6.50/17 tyre (second type Bentley India silent) and that we continue to experiment on the problem of giving you a still better tyre.

We have had a few complaints of rapid tread wear since the introduction of the 4¼ litre Bentley and also a strong complaint from London regarding the noise produced by the 5.50/18 cover and we feel that the introduction of this latest type 6.50/17 tyre would go a long way towards eliminating such complaints.

Yours faithfully,
INDIA TYRE & RUBBER COMPANY LIMITED.
