W. A.{Mr Adams} Robotham Esq.,
Rolls-Royce Limited,
DERBY.

Dear Mr. Robotham,

We have had complaints regarding tube failures on the Bentley.

Mr. Chaplin wrote your Mr. Mattinson regarding this matter but I think you would probably like to know about the matter also.

For your information, the trouble is due to the tube being trapped under the bead during the fitting and this usually occurs near the valve. In December 1936 we changed the curl of our mandrel to improve the fit of our tube.

We have examined all the complaints and none of the tubes complained of were made since this change was put into effect.

We think that possibly at times your fitters may not be putting quite sufficient air in the tubes when mounting the tyres. Perhaps you would like to look into this matter.

We also understand that in some cases where special bodies are fitted, the tyres are removed by the body builders and refitted. It may be that some of the trouble has come from this practice.

Yours faithfully,
INDIA TYRE & RUBBER COMPANY LIMITED.

Pane Lwitte
Works Manager.
