We have carried out a test on a standard battery ignition distributor on our bench rig to ascertain how much the contact breaker gap varies with temperature. The gap was first measured with the distributor at atmospheric temperature and was found to be .014" to .016". The distributor was then removed from the rig and heated up in the oven to a temperature of 100°C. Upon quickly replacing the distributor and measuring the gap we found this to be .010" to .012" i.e. .004" smaller. After allowing the distributor to cool down, the gap increased .002" being .012" to .014". There does not appeartherefore, to be much alteration in the gap due to variation of temperature in normal running on the chassis. EFC/HEW. | ||
