In view of the fact that we are to go ahead quickly with 250 sets of material and put Goshawk chassis on production at 20 a week at the earliest possible date, the following modifications to our present instructions are necessary;- 1. Crankcase & Bearings. We should produce the new through bolted type of crankcase with Elliott's improved ends, and allow the Works to go ahead for 250 sets. 2. Pistons. All O.K. except Piston Ring. O.O. could order up the rings if matter is urgent, as the possible modification only consists in chamfering one edge. 3. Front Axle. O.K. for 250 sets. 4. Side Steering Tube. The new design should be instructed up for 250 sets; at present I believe we have only ordered 100 sets. 5. Wiring & Fittings. 100 sets only as at present, as we propose to try and improve the method of wiring. R.{Sir Henry Royce} is not satisfied with the Simplex tubing scheme, but in any case if we are pressed we shall continue with this until a new scheme is available, but we should only order up to meet our actual requirements. 6. Spanners & Tools. 100 sets only at the moment, but the O.O. are at liberty to go beyond this number when they feel the necessity for same, and inform us when they have done so. 7. Cylinder. O.K. for 250 sets, but automatic spring tension of fan drive is not being brought in earlier than the above. 8. Fan. The present general design of fan bracket etc., contd. | ||
