X.4105A - CUTOUT CONTACT POINTS OF SPECIAL TYPE.

We have various experiments in hand to improve the working of the cutout contact points, all of which include, where necessary, the one definitely good feature of the very much more rigid fixed cutout contact point support, i.e. to prevent this being pushed sideways by the tangential friction at the points.
You will find one of the special experimental types on the cutout on your 20 HP. chassis 8-GIII, and we should be pleased if, at this stage, you would examine this and tell us the condition of the contact points.

We should also very much like to hear Mr. Royce's remark if you would be good enough to point this out to him.

Other experiments comprise the narrowing down of the movable cutout contact spring neck to '.150", .137" and .125", respectively. All the experimental variations under our observation are working very satisfactorily, and appear to have overcome the fault which sometimes occurs on the present standard, of the roughening up of the points eliminating the rubbing action.

This has been practically eliminated on standard by specifying the exact manner in which the points should meet together, so as to produce the rubbing action which was intended..
