P & R BATTERY. 40/50 HP. CHASSIS.

Will you kindly collect from my office a P & R Battery which was originally supplied, in non-conformity with my instructions, to Chassis 28-LK {L. King} , for the American Ambassador at Madrid.

The whole of the information which I have available in connection with it is contained in EP {G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} /Tm10/H. 3. 12. 23, copy of which I attach.

Upon receiving same, I immediately wrote saying the battery should not have been fitted. We were not in agreement with it being repaired and utilised, but insisted on having an Exide Battery sent out, and the P & R. {Sir Henry Royce} returned.

I would like you to dismantle the battery in question, cell by cell, and report as to why this battery should have given trouble as compared with the Exide, because the correct position for either an Exide or a P & R battery on the 40/50 HP. chassis is the running board, and the criticisms made in Madrid's letter, extract of which is given in EP {G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} 's note, apply to all 40/50 HP. standard chassis.

To my mind, of course, the illustrations quoted do not apply, but just as to why the battery should fail at all I am interested in, as it may have some bearing on the use of P & R. {Sir Henry Royce} batteries abroad generally.
