WE60. (2) Contd. was connected up to the Chronograph (as elsewhere previously described) and a high speed chronographic record taken of the instants of make of the carbon and copper contacts. These records, which were also taken at voltages above and below normal, shew the carbon contacts to be definitely making first. The test was repeated using a condenser and galvanometer in series with one pair of the contacts the other pair arranged to short the condenser and galvo. at make. This also confirmed the above result. Both of these switches were fitted with a carbon arm flat spring D72922 which we suggest is the best of the three alternatives provided on the drawing.
