For the attention of Mr.C.H.Brooks.

Dear Sirs,

With reference to the compression rings you are at present producing for us is it possible to delete the taper on the face or have the rings already gone too far. If it is a case of the latter can you produce another 144 rings with ground finish but plain straight face with no taper.

Many thanks for your letter of the 18th with the information on tin plating and ring flutter. I have not checked over any rings but our standard 4 1/4 litre ring to our calculation compares very favourably with the results you give. I don't know how they go on with a scraper ring or for ring with a higher EN value, I suppose in the case of the latter they use a different constant to 13,000.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
