contd:- -2- As regards the carburetter troubles. You will note from the above telegram that the S.U. is now falling into disfavour, and that is evidently quite justified with the results obtained from the R.R. Carburetter and as soon as I hear something from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} about the working of this carburetter, we will send the information on to you. Please keep me in touch with your movements so that I can keep you well posted with all the latest information. We are continuing our tests on the R.R. carburetter here and we are taking note of the various faults quoted by you. We are rather disappointed to hear that the clutch squeaks as you will note from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}'s report that his clutch has been perfect. We will especially note the behaviour of the ones on 6/7-Goshawk-11. Dunlop wheels. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} reports that R.{Sir Henry Royce} favours the Dunlop wheels in preference to the R.W. We shall be glad to hear from you any information concerning the weaknesses, if any, of these wheels, as we expect they will be standardized unless they have any serious faults. We are still continuing our tests to fit R.W. wheels on 7-Goshawk-11 so that we hope to have comparative tests. Steering. We are experimenting on the steering for the complaint you are having. The matter is also having the attention of R.{Sir Henry Royce} as hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} car has the same trouble. As soon as we have some definite cure or improvement which we can embody on your car, we will let you know. Ball joints. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} reports that R.{Sir Henry Royce} is favourably considering changing the present type of ball joint for the type as used on the 40/50. He is also pressing for leather covers and we are now obtaining samples and as soon as satisfactory we will send on to you a set. If possible, we shall fix one of the sample sets on 6-Goshawk-11. Carburetter filter choke. We should like to hear from you about this matter as we are putting it up to the D.O. for alteration in design on the lines suggested by you. We should also be glad if you could confirm the oil filter job as this may also necessitate an alteration in design. Brakes. This report is rather disappointing as compared with Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} report. We will note the behaviour of brakes on 6/7-Goshawk-11. In connection with this matter I think it will be necessary for you to have the brake drums dismantled at the first possible opportunity when the car is "hors de combat" so as to give us a more definite report on the condition of the brake and what you consider is the cause of the squeak and what suggestions you have for overcoming them. Also what is the cause for the efficient falling off when running... contd:- | ||
