-5- CHASSIS ITEMS. (5) Item 5 on Agenda. Bensport generally Hal/MA.30.9.32. and H.S/M.24.10.32. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} referred to HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/M.24.10.32. and a discussion took place on R's proposals. It was decided to leave in abeyance and no reply to R's note necessary at the moment. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} reported progress on the Bensport as follows:- (1) Frame members are in. (2) Body is ready. (3) Axles ready very soon. (4) Radiator shell will be made from the existing wooden model. (5) 12 G.IV. unit will be put in for preliminary tests to obtain information of behaviour of complete car at high speeds and be replaced by the new engine unit when ready. (6) Car for R's use. Not on Agenda. PN.{Mr Northey} came in. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} asked Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} for a stock car to be allotted for use at Ww. which will be more suitable for the purpose. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} can make use of the car now with R.{Sir Henry Royce} as it has a J.I. unit which will be most useful at Derby at the present time on work in connection with Bensport. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} agreed, and Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} will get in touch with CX.{Major Len W. Cox - Advertising Manager} and make all necessary arrangements with him and with R.{Sir Henry Royce} (7) Item 9 on Agenda. Independent Springing and next move. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} reported that Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} has in hand a scheme which promises to be very good. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} said he would write to Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} asking if his designs were far enough advanced to enable the Experimental Dept. to make up a provisional rig of parts to try out the scheme. PN.{Mr Northey} gave his experiences of trial runs he had made on different cars with independent springing in France. (8) Item 6 on Agenda. Peregrine experimental cars and programme of tests. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} reported that he has two Peregrine chassis and will have another next week. One is going to France on November 5th, and will carry out experimental runs and tests. Various alternative parts will be taken for trial. These tests will not be the usual 10,000 miles run but will be made to obtain information quickly regarding the functioning of various units. Chassis Nos. 4 & 5 are not yet seriously started as the results of the test in France are required before going ahead with them. | ||
