1297 Spare see 223 for prints Note No prints attached 5.11.37. BENTLEY SILENCING SYSTEMS. A consideration of the silencer losses in the various H.R. engine units, showed a loss in the region of 2%. Various tests were therefore run on the O.H.S. engine, to see how these losses could be reduced. Sketches of the various systems tried are as shown on Fig. (1), and a list of tests is as under :- (1) Effect of total power output on silencer losses (Figs. (2) and (3)). (2) Effect of twin manifolds with a standard Bentley exhaust system, as compared with a single manifold with the same exhaust system, and also with a straight through pipe. (Fig. (4) ) (3) Effect of interference system evolved on a wave effect principle using various types of rear silencer arrangements as illustrated in Fig. 1 (Fig.5). | ||
