From 'R.' questioning the use of a stiff spring for the dynamo drive carrier shaft and suggesting a simpler alternative.

X8103 I cannot understand the above requiring such a stiff spring to control the carrier shaft; it would not be satisfactory. Make it a reasonable spring, and as I suggested, or better still let the fabric coupling control the shaft endwise.
