We send you herewith drawing LeC. 2042. dealing with the above.

The damping friction surface as shewn is requested by Mr. Royce but as regards the springing we cannot get a sufficiently large and heavy spring incorporated in the manner he desires, namely, by boring out the drive shaft to a larger dia. up to the Woodruff key, and putting the spring in the bore.

The spring has to pass over the tapered end of the central shaft. We have therefore put the spring in in the manner shewn, by cutting the rear end of the shaft short and extending the ball bearing nut to form the oil retainer.

We wrote to HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} asking for his views on what strength of spring was necessary to overcome the fabric coupling. In the meantime we shew 2 springs on this drawing - one of 60 lbs. and the other of 80 lbs load. We think this drive ought to be tried experimentally.

We are sending a blue print to Mr. Royce for his comments.
