To R. {Sir Henry Royce} from Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to CJ. c. to E. {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to Da. {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to BY. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} X4308 Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} 2/LG10. 7.22.1 INSTRUMENT BOARD - GOSHAWK 11. X.4067. X.4308. We are sending to you fixed into a teak board, an Oil Gauge which has been submitted by the makers supplying the present 40/50 gauge, for use on the Goshawk. We are also sending a gauge supplied by the Foxboro Instrument Co. which is being used by Springfield. This gauge is fixed by means of a clip at the back instead of bolts. The difficulty with the bolts is that when the hole for the gauge is cut out on the large size or in boring the holes for the bolts, they frequently break through - also the heads and slots collect dirt and dust. We consider the clipped fittings make the neatest-looking job. The A.T. Speedometer people are proposing to supply their Speedometer with a clip fixing at the back so as to avoid the use of any screws or bolts. The gauge submitted for the Goshawk has only a temporary dial plate, also the union connection at the back is unnecessarily long. Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
