To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from EFC. Reference your R4/M5.5.25, I think thee origin of your query is the report GWH{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}3/Crn28.4.25 sent to you under cover of Hsl/LG2.5.25. The cessation of the dynamo functioning was due to films of oil between the control brushes and their holders, causing sluggishness when cold. When this was cured there was no further trouble. We had a similar case on a 20 HP. chassis recently, though fortunately this is generally rare. We are of the opinion that it is more a condensation effect than direct transference from the dynamo bearing. With regard to the ignition contact points this trouble is somewhat mysterious, as in a general way the points do not seem to be behaving as satisfactorily on the E.A.C. as on the 20 HP. and there is no readily apparent and plausible reason for the difference. We have been, particularly since your note R2/M20.10.24, making investigations generally on the life of the contact points and during the last few weeks in particular upon this difference. On the matter generally, I had already at the time of receipt of your query written some notes entitled "Battery Ignition Circuit Connections" as a result of a more detailed analysis of the whole problem, which notes you | ||
