X417 To Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}2/AD11.11.30. BERNARD HOPPS GLR-50. Reference Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}20/E10.11.30. This car was in the Repair Dept. last week for a number of minor points to be attended to, and amongst others, the complaint of lack of road holding. To cure this complaint the Repair Dept. increased the load on the hydraulic dampers. This is what we referred to as excessive damping, though the only means of curing the complaint. With reference to 26-EX. If the Hartfords are completely slacked off on this car it has perfectly standard hydraulic loadings. Our opinion is that it then holds the road much better than a car with standard type springs and the same damper loads. The Hartfords are fitted so that the man who cares nothing for low speed comfort can get the results he requires at high speeds, the car being primarily designed for this type of owner. Our recent tests on suspension for the ordinary car have shewn that we may get benefit from employing a damper load made up partly of solid friction (hartfords) and partly hydraulic). We shall, however, be reporting fully on this in due course. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} | ||
