X1300 Exptl. Dept. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer}32/KW. 15th July, 1936. Your Ref: FGM/IFW. The Adamant Engineering Co.Ltd., Dallow Road, Luton. For the attention of Commdr. Matravers. Dear Sirs, We thank you for your letter of the 13th inst., and the particulars concerning the three roller followers. We are naturally very concerned about the large deviations from the drawing tolerances and we sincerely hope that the rollers you are supplying to our production people are, or very soon will be, within the limits. The writer believes that our chief production engineer, Mr. Harvey Bailey, has written to you recently, pointing out that until we can standardise the method of production by which Messrs. Ransome and Marles finish the ball race tracks, the supply of rollers to our production people must not be interrupted, and must be as accurate as possible. Mr. Bailey also mentioned in his letter "making parts under the new scheme", and holding "the bore of the roller to 0.0005"". In case this may confuse you, we wish to explain that this refers to the proposal by which Ransome and Marles do part of the machining. We hope to be able to send you within the next day or two prints showing the dimensions to which the parts should be finished by you under this arrangement, and at the same time we will explain the reference to the bore of the roller, etc. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
