X1300 c. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Mr. Hardy. [Signature] 14th. July 1936. BY.13/G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} Messrs. Adamant Engineering Co. Ltd., Dallow Road, Luton. For the attention of Commander F.G. Matravers. Dear Sirs, Referring to the various steering gears which we have on order with you, it should not be necessary for us to confirm that there must be no hold up in the production of these parts, as obviously our output of gears is dependent upon a regular supply of steering parts from your Company. There are certain improvements which have been discussed with our Mr. Hardy, but these must be looked upon as being improvements and as such represent future possibilities and not a present demand by this Company. We must, of course, impress upon you the need for improving the manufacture of the parts, i.e. making them under the new scheme as quickly as possible, and for that purpose we suggest it is necessary to put in hand in parallel with the parts required to keep us going, which obviously must not be interfered with, new parts to meet the improvements we are asking for, by which the bore of the roller will be held to an accuracy of half of one thousandths (.0005). Your roller profile will be ground from this accurately produced bore, and Ransome & Marles in turn will produce their ball races from the same spigotting. In connection with the improvements, we wish to remark that you must wait certain information from our Experimental Department which will be supplied in the course of the next day or two. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. TECHNICAL PRODUCTION ENGINEER. | ||
