| To La. {L. A. Archer} c. to Mx. {John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} 606 Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} /AFM. {Anthony F. Martindale} 4/JH.28.2.38. WRAITH BRAKES - SAFETY STOPS. As this car has not a separate hand brake, an arrangement of stops has been provided to ensure that the front brakes will operate in the event of any failure in the rear brake mechanism. Unless the brakes are correctly set to the instructions we gave you on 20th February 1938, the front brakes may not operate. We consider that each car before it leaves the Works should be tested by the removal of a pin in the rear brake ropes to see that the front brakes do come on. This could be done on the road, but the chassis should not be driven any distance with the rear brakes out of action as the front brakes will overheat. The stops in question are those on the idler lever L3, and the bell cranks D1 and D2 marked on the diagram which we gave you with the setting instructions. We expect that you will agree that this is a very important matter. Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} /AFM. {Anthony F. Martindale} | ||
