Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} C.E. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} GRY{Shadwell Grylls} EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}14/MH.{M. Huckerby}16.2.34 re Chassis No.B-65-AE - Richard F.Summers Esq. ------------------------------------ We are rather anxious to have a report from you on the demonstration of this car, and fixing of the modified fan, which you proposed to do on our behalf in regard to the above, as it was one which you wished to handle personally. We also understand this morning that Mr.Summers is now complaining about a nasty smell of burnt resin, etc. in the body, which we suggest is probably due to clutch slipping. We discussed this point this morning with Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Grylls, to the effect that he should get in touch with Mr Summers and ask him to examine the condition of the clutch pedal. If this is now up against the board the clutch would require attention and we advise the car being returned to the Works. It will also be necessary to settle the point as to whether you are to accuse Mr.Summers of being a bad driver or whether some attention is required to the clutch from a design point of view, as this has already occurred on two other Bentley cars.
