Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/IMW.{Ivan M. Waller - Head of Chateauroux} (Chateauroux). 300a Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Wym{G. Harold Whyman - Experimental Manager}8/R.26.7.37. 32-EX - PHANTOM III. EXHAUST SYSTEM. Replying to your memo Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/IMW{Ivan M. Waller - Head of Chateauroux}/5/JAB.15.7.37., we gather that the stud in the boss on the intermediate pipe has broken, and that you have no exhaust blow. If this is the case we would suggest that you fit a band round the pipe, and connect the band to the crankcase by stays and continue running. It is almost impossible to make another pipe in Derby of "Aluminized" mild steel with flanges welded into position before "Aluminizing" and expect it to fit your car, as the pipe already fitted is non-standard. We should like the present pipe to continue its mileage, if possible, as a check on the life of "Aluminized" mild steel. Please let me know if you can do this.
