I attach hereto portion of blue print with additions made by myself in red ink to illustrate a suggestion I wish to put forward regarding creaks and groans in scuttles, about the prevalence of which in Australia I recently wrote to you.

Owing to the position of the accelerator pedal on the off side and the dashboard supports on both sides, there is very little area of contact between the base of the scuttle and the chassis frame. In the 20 H.P. car the most for'ard support is a very considerable distance to the rear of the dashboard and the timber has to be cut away to clear the accelerator pedal and dashboard supports to such a degree that its rigidity is seriously interfered with.

If an angle plate similar to that outlined in red ink by me on the drawing were fitted to the side members of the chassis at the factory, a much increased area of support would be available and another body bolt could be used without in any way weakening the top flange of the chassis side member.
This angle plate would of course be cut away and trimmed to the contour of the scuttle by the coachbuilder after he had erected same so that there would be no unsightly projection beyond the coachwork.
